Dr. Maria Lantin, Executive Director
Dr. Maria Lantin is the Director of the Intersections Digital Studios (IDS) research centre at the Emily Carr University of Art + Design (ECUAD). For many years she has been joining her love of Computing Science with her belief in the innovative potential of the arts. A circuitous route led her from obtaining her PhD in Computing Science at Simon Fraser University to leading the Visualization Research Lab at the Banff Centre's Banff New Media Institute (BNMI). Working primarily in teams, she has had the joy of bringing to life many artist projects involving digital technology, and continues this practice at Emily Carr where the IDS provides an ample playground for experimentation.
Julie Andreyev, Artistic Director
Julie Andreyev is an artist whose practice explores the social and spatial character of the city using mobility and performance and animal consciousness through interactive installation and video. Her current work under the area of practice called Animal Lover examines animals and their methods of communication as creative beings. Key to Animal Lover are questions and critiques addressing modern relationships with animals and how animals are regarded by humans. Her work has been shown across Canada, in the US, Europe and Japan. Andreyev's work is supported by The Canada Council for the Arts, The British Columbia Arts Council, Foreign Affairs Canada, and The Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada. She is Associate Professor in Digital and Interactive Arts at Emily Carr University of Art + Design.
Wendi Copeland, Executive Assistant
Wendi Copeland has a background in communications, marketing and special events with experience in the tourism, travel and conference industries. She has organized a number of conferences while working for the BC Ministry of Tourism, Pacific Rim Institute, Keg Restaurants and Canadian Airlines. Copeland is currently a fourth year Visual Arts student at Emily Carr University of Art + Design who recently studied at The School of The Art Institute of Chicago and completed a Creative Residency at The Banff Centre.
Erdem Tasdelen, Curatorial Assistant
Tasdelen is a visual artist working with photography, text art and mixed media. He currently lives in Vancouver. He holds a BFA in Visual Arts & Communication Design from Sabanci University in Istanbul and is working towards a graduate degree in Visual Arts from Emily Carr University of Art + Design. His research interests include identity, performativity, gender politics and poststructuralist understandings of community.
Sandra Hanson, Graphic Designer
Sandra Hanson is an artist and the principal of Sandra Hanson Design, a graphic design firm in Vancouver. In her design practice, she enjoys working with corporate, social and arts organizations collaborating on and providing print, web and environmental design. With formal education in both graphic design and visual art she finds pleasure in both communication and aesthetic development creating visual connections through contemporary imagery, typography and often her own visual art. Recent work include development of identity solutions for IF'09 and Interactive Futures, The National Maritime Center for the Pacific and the Arctic, developing a permanent art collection and installation for a private corporation, and 2D product development for Park Royal Shopping Center.
Randy Adams, Web Author
Randy Adams aka runran is a Canadian media artist with a background in creative writing, journalism and the visual arts. His work has been exhibited and collected by public galleries and archives, and published in various Canadian newspapers and magazines. He has received several grants for writing and photography. He is author of Eternal Prairie (1999) and has edited various publications including Transdisciplinary Digital Art: Sound, Vision and the New Screen (2008). He has participated as an organizer and/or media artist in conferences, screenings, performances & artist's talks at universities, colleges and art galleries in Canada and the UK. In 2003 he first reviewed Interactive Futures for an online media journal and has since been involved in the conference as reviewer, editor, web designer and/or curator. He has worked online as an editor, artist, writer and web designer since 1997. He is an autodidact.
